08/08/15 16:25 Arko is a 9 year old male brown and black German Shepherd who is being surrendered because the owner can no longer care for him. Arko has been with the family for 1 year. Arko lives with 1 adult and 4 small children, another dog who is also a German Shepherd and a cat. Arko is reported to playful and loose towards the other dog in the house but must be kept separated from the cat in the home. Arko is not receptive to children and is reported to become stiff in their presence. Arko gets his exercise from leash walks and yard play. On walks the owner does not allow him to engage other dogs or people. Arko is house broken and does not have accidents inside. Arko gets bathed with a hose and is playful with the water. Arko has not had his nails trimmed but owner states he does not mind having his paws held and touched. Owner will not remove food when he is eating but reports that he will not guard toys or treats. Arko likes to play fetch with balls and enjoys squeaky toys. Arko knows several commands such as sit, come and heal. When the family is home he goes into his own place. When home alone he is well behaved. Loud sharp noises do not bother him but will bark at visitors to the home. Arko eats dry food with water. Upon intake Arko has not handled. Client helped to scan for microchip (negative) and counselor did not photograph or collar.

Arko previously lived with 1 adult and 4 small children ages 10 to 7 years old and another dog that is also a German shepherd and a cat. The owner stated Arko is reported to be playful and loose towards the other dog in the house but must be kept separated from the cat in the home. The owner mentioned Arko is reactive towards the children and is reported to become stiff, growl and bark in their presence. The owner also stated Arko is house broken and when home alone he is well behaved. During SAFER Arko came into the assessment nervous then became stiff and growled towards the handler, not all handling items were able to be conducted. During resources portion of the assessment Arko bit the assess-a-hand on food item and toy, rawhide he takes away body between the handler and the item. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Food: 5. Dog tries to bite. Toy 1: 3. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. His body is stiff.
