04/23/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Argyle came to us on 4/19/2015. She was fearful upon intake, tail very tucked. She approached the counselor when coaxed softly with a low tail wag. She showed her teeth when admissions counselor attempted to collar and also to scan. Argyle pulled hard on leash during relief walk .She was head shy for collaring and needed to be distracted by someone to get the collar on. She was high energy and hard to position for SAFER assessment. Once settled, Argyle allowed assessor to cup hands under her head with her eyes averted and body soft with a wagging tail during Look item. She leaned into the assessor during Sensitivty and accepted the touch. Argyle played rough during Tag item, jumping up on the assessor, chewing leash, and hard to settle at end of game. She pulled her paw back quickly for first Squeeze, but second Squeeze had no reaction. Argyle growled and attempted to bite during Food item. She was playful with toy, holding a firm grip with loose wiggly body and wagging tail. She had minimal interest in rawhide and relinquished it easily. Argyle approached the helper dog with ears forward and tail well above spine level. Due to her potential for food guarding behavior and attempting to bite coupled with nervousness with collaring, Argyle must be placed with a New Hope Partner. She may also benefit from puppy obedience classes to work on basic manners as well as leash manners. Argyle needs enrichment in the form of daily walks and exercise to help with her puppy enthusiasm, as well as enrichment toys and puzzles such as Kongs or Nylabones so she can positively direct her high energy and exuberance. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, panting. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog pulls back paw quickly. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food 4. Dog growls and air snaps. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 1. Minimal interest. Dog sniffs, then turns away. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches the helper dog, body soft, tail well above spine level, ears forward.
