09/15/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Apple Jax came to our center as a surrender after he was left at a friends and the owner did not return. During his stay, it is reported someone was playing very rough with him and he bit them. Apple Jax was nervous during his initial medical exam but allowed all handling. He was cautious upon entering the SAFER assessment area. Apple Jax allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, whale eye, body cautious. He stood still and accepted the touch for Sensitivity, body soft, ears and tail neutral, mouth closed. He followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft, settling easily at end. Apple Jax did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He had no interest in Food, Toy, or Rawhide. Apple Jax approached the helper dog with ears forward and tail above spine level, as he got closer he turned around and exited. The Behavior Team feels Apple Jax would do best in an Experienced home with No Children. He may benefit from a calm, quiet, structured environment without a lot of fast movements so he can acclimate and relax in his new home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is cautious, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 1. Dog approaches the helper dog, soft or loose body, not playful, tail at spine level, investigates then turns away.
