07/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Apollo came to our center as an owner surrender. It is reported he lived with children ages 10-13 and was playful, tolerant, and relaxed with them. Owner also reports Apollog barks and growls at dogs he sees in the street, and has never been around cats. Owner also reports Apollo has bitten two people in the past who he did not know and they approached him quickly. Upon intake Apollo was anxious and whining. He was tense when handled, allowing limited handling. Apollo allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body a bit cautious. He stood still and accepted the touch, body cautious, lip lick, tail down. Apollo followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, jumping up playfully at end of game. He did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts, licking assessor’s hand. Apollo lifted his head out of the Food dish with a bit of pressure, tail wagging. He was playful with Toy, keeping a firm grip with a loose, wiggly body. Apollo had minimal interest in Rawhide, briefly engaging with it, batting it around and wagging, but relinquishing quickly. He is tolerant and greets other dogs appropriately in off leash playgroup here at the center. Due to his owner surrender profile, the Behavior Team feels Apollo would do best with an Experienced adopter with no Young Children. Any older children should have an in-depth interaction before considering adoption. Apollo may need to be approached slowly before warming up, but once comfortable has shown to be playful and social towards handlers. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is a bit cautious, his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2.
