09/15/15 16:33 Intake Behavior: Angel allowed staff to collar and scan for a microchip. Angel’s body became stiff when photos were about to be taken of her. Angel did not like the sound of the camera clicking and growled then lunged toward the camera.
09/23/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: “She was very good in playgroup,” said a staff. I asked because Angel is a little timid and wary of sudden happenings around her. She is a bit camera shy too… Angel is a very small young adult with a lioness face. She looks healthy and is well dressed in her spotless mocca and cream coat. She is calm in her kennel and accepts my leash without say. She is ready for her walk and is glad to do her business away from her den. Free in a pen, she seems a bit lost, in alert mode, not sure what to make of the place she is in and all the new people and dogs she sees around her. Angel needs lots of convincing, talking and petting. She finally offers me a smile that vanishes as soon as I take out my camera for pictures. No happy face. After quite a while spent together, Angel recognizes me as a “safe” person to deal with and decides to “adopt” me… She hops on the bench, then onto my lap on all fours and just chills out, interrupting her day dreaming from time to time with lots of kisses. So, in the end, Angel and I had quite a sweet time and I look forward to meeting her again. Come and see for yourself if Angel fits your dream for a forever best friend. She is waiting patiently at the Manhattan Care center. A volunteer updates: I can safely and honestly say that Angel is one of my favorite dogs at the care center. I would not miss a day without taking her out and I think that she really enjoys our time together. She does not really seem to care for long walks, just does her business and hop on the bench she goes for interminable cuddles and kisses. She sits motionless on my lap, happy to be with her human friend. Angel is such a feel good pooch although she never really smiles. Do not let her fool you with her stern face. There is so much love and loyalty behind it…I hope that soon enough she will be in a home, the precious little girl every pet owner would like to own.
09/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Angel walks calmly on leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Angel was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She showed minimal interested in the food but she took the toy away with a soft body language. During the rawhide growled and snapped at the assess-a-hand during the rawhide test. Angel may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address this guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without children. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 1: Minimal interest. Dog may smell or lick food, then turn away. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide 4. Dog growls and snap When off leash with other dogs, Angel greets politely and attempts to solicit play. She engages in brief bouts of running play and is tolerant of mounting. 9/17 update: Angel is social and playful, engaging in running play with both males and females. She is tolerant of being mounted.
