04/16/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
4/16/15 Anchovy’s family got him from his finder 6m ago and surrendered him because he bites other dogs. Anchovy lived w/ 2 adults. He’s friendly w/ some strangers. Anchovy lived w/ a 2y old male Pom mix. He was mostly relaxed w/ him, sometimes cuddling and wrestling, but bit his face/neck when he passed the doorway of the kitchen/living room in either direction, leaving abrasions and punctures ~10 times (not in past 10d). His owner pet sat other dogs (all sizes, sexes, ages). He played and cuddled with them but bit most of them (~10), usually trying to guard food, toys, beds, or his owners, sometimes causing blood and punctures (once in past 10d). His owners kept food/toys/beds away and crated Anchovy when they cooked/ate. He humps dogs often. He chases birds and squirrels. Anchovy’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, pushy, anxious, and medium energy. He’s a lap dog and the best snuggler. He loves neck scratches and pulls your hand to him for more. He doesn’t like sitting/lying on hard surfaces. He follows his family around. He likes balls and stuffed toys. He plays fetch, and stalks, throws around, and barks at toys, treats, and his bed. Anchovy lived inside and ate Natural Balance food. His favorite foods are bananas, apples, oranges, bacon, and yogurt. He went for slow-brisk walks, played in the yard, and played at the park with no strangers around. He potties on all outdoor surfaces and goes off the curb. Anchovy is housetrained and doesn’t have accidents. He did well in a covered wire crate w/ a bone and the radio on at night and while alone. Alone in the yard for a few minutes, he barks at passersby. He is hard to catch off his leash. He knows sit (fist), high five (flat vertical palm), touch, look, spin (he dances), off, and drop it. He waits at the door when he has to potty and goes as soon as he’s outside. He doesn’t bark at outside noises/the door. Anchovy doesn’t mind when people take his food/treat/toy, move him off furniture, brush him, or wake him up. He may run when people try to catch him to hold/restrain him. He’s nervous during baths. He bites during nail trims-no blood. When strangers come into the home, he sometimes jumps up and bites their hands-no blood. He barks, growls, and lunges at strangers that sit next to or hug his owner. Outside, he barks, growls, and lunges running/yelling children, strangers that stare at him, and skateboards/noisy objects that get close to him.

04/22/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Anchovy walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Anchovy was calm and relaxed when playing tag with assessor. He did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Anchovy was not interested in toys or rawhide. He approaches helper dog, body is tense, ears erect and high tail wag. Anchovy was surrender to us. According to his previous owner he mentioned that he would do well in a home with adults/teenagers and without other pets. The owner stated that Anchovy showed concern if another dog approaches to his toys or food but he doesn’t bother when a person approaches. Anchovy also bit 2 dogs at the dog park about 5 months ago. Both were playing with toys” because of his owner profile the behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1.
