09/26/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes (as told by Amanda): Hi, I’m Amanda and I’m here. I’m not exactly sure where “here” is, I just know that it’s not the home I’m used to. I’m really quiet in my kennel, but when a nice person named Volunteer comes for me I’m ready to go out and take care of my business if you know what I mean. I like slow, easy walks on the leash so I can stop and sniff stuff I see. That’s how I learn. It was really busy on the streets as the Pope was coming to the area so there were tons of police and they all wanted to meet me, and all told me how pretty I am. I blushed but you couldn’t see it underneath my coco coat, but I wagged my tail to let them know I appreciated the compliments. Volunteer and I went into the backyard and I jumped on the bench to give her some kisses, came when she called me, and showed her that I know ‘sit’, ‘shake’ and ‘down’. Of course she gave me a treat each time, so I must say she learns fast with positive reinforcement training 🙂 Volunteer threw a ball for me but I wasn’t really interested as I’m still trying to figure out where I am. I’m looking for a new home with nice people to love……I’m a good girl, so please ask to meet me when you visit. Thanks and I hope to see you soon.
09/28/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Amanda came to us after a member of the public called that a dog was loose inside a building. She was easy to place in and out of her kennel, and walked nicely on leash. Amanda was slightly nervous during her initial medical exam but warmed up easily. She averted her eyes and allowed her head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, ears and tail neutral. Amanda leaned into the assessor during Sensitivity item, open mouth panting, ears and tail neutral. She was distracted and unresponsive during the Tag game, requiring coaxing to return to assessor. Amanda did not pull her paw back on both Squeeze attempts. She lifted her head and ceased eating when assess-a-hand approached the Food bowl. Amanda had minimal interest in Toy, sniffing as it approached her but quickly losing interst. She kept a firm grip on Rawhide, loose body. Amanda approached the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears forward, tail spine level, body not stiff. The Behavior Team feels Amanda would do well in an Average home. She may need time to initially warm up and be comfortable in her new environment. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, body neutral. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game with coaxing. she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Food 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push her out. Toy 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Rawhide 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip, body loose. She does not place her body between you and the rawhide. Dog – dog 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral
