09/29/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Alvin previously lived with 2 adults. The owner describes Alvin as respectful around strangers and gentle with kids. It was reported by the owner Alvin is not house train and has a few accidents in the house. The owner stated Alvin is a fearful and independent dog that has a medium activity; he also doesn’t like to be picked up if so he will give a growl. The owner mentioned Alvin will growl or try to bite if someone takes away his food, toys and treats. At intake it was reported Alvin was fearful and nervous, he began to growl, snarling and attempted to bite the counselor, and no handling was conducted at this time. During SAFER Alvin came into the assessment room nervous and timid, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Alvin was distracted during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Alvin was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Alvin was tense and uncomfortable throughout the safer. Due to some behavioral concerns and resource guarding issues stated from the previous owner, we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time.
