07/08/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I love his face – it’s expressive, fun, loving and oh so wise… and all this in an 11 month old! Happy to see me unlatch his door, he play-bowed to me so much I could barely leash him — too funny… I’m laughing, he’s wagging his tail and thus a friendship was born. Out we go where he goes potty immediately and then we play together in a backyard pen. He’s so happy to be out, chasing a tennis ball but not retrieving (his new family can teach him that), posing for pictures perfectly, enjoying his reward treats which he takes gently, and sitting when I asked him to. Some cuddle time is next, and Escobar is up on the bench next to me for some loving. We head to the park, and while he pulled on the leash initially, he settles into a perfect pace with me and we both enjoy our walk. Making friends with someone on the street who wanted to meet my enchanting date, Escobar wags his tail and smiles at his new friend. Posing for more photos, Escobar doesn’t mind being tethered and makes sweet eye contact with his expressive face. Just love that face! This awesome guy is hoping to meet his new best friend, and we hope you both get lucky soon.
07/08/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Escobar came to our center as a stray so behaviors in the home are unknown. He pulled hard on leash for his relief walk. Escobar held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body soft. He leaned in during Sensitivity, wiggly body, tail wagging. Escobar jumped up during Tag game, but was distracted and focused on other stimuli. He took a moment to settle at end of game. Escobar did not pull his paw back during both Squeeze attempts, but lightly mouthed assessor’s hand during second Squeeze. He allowed his head to be pushed out of the Food dish when assess-a-hand was applied to his cheek. Escobar kept a firm grip on Toy and Rawhide with a loose, wiggly body. He was energetic and playful, jumping up hard on assessor and assistant in rough play. The Behavior Team feels Escobar would do best with an Experienced adopter that can positively direct his high energy and enthusiasm. He may benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners and body awareness. Escobar may also benefit from daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of daily walks, runs, play, exercise, as well as durable toys such as Kongs and Nylabones to positively direct his energy. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, tail wag, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 2. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1.
