07/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Akira came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have any information on his past behaviors in a home. At intake he was reported to be exuberant and receptive to introduction. He was also reported to be loose for all handling and walked well on leash but could be very insistent. During SAFER Akira was very sociable and attention seeking. He was a bit difficult to position for some of the handling due to high energy, but once settled he allowed the assessor to conduct each item without issue. During the tag interaction Akira was playful, and was a bit mouthy but did not apply pressure. He was easy to handle when engaged with the food item, and only showed minimal interest in the toys and rawhides. Akira appears to be sociable and very interested in interacting with human handlers, as well as other dogs, but he has displayed some high energy while in the care center, so the department feels Akira will likely do best with an adopter with an average amount of dog experience that is prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, and open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Dog is a bit mouthy (no pressure applied) Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: 1. Dog lifts head and ceases eating when you reach to pull the bowl away or push him out. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog sniffs, then turns away. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest in rawhide, dog sniffs, then turns away. Dog-dog: Off leash Akira, Akira initially seems high energy but once introduced with a more assertive female he calms. Tolerant. Continues to greet politely.
