A volunteer writes: Found with her buddy (litter mate?) Dax (A1057018), and surrendered to our care as the finder’s children developed allergies, we’re told that AJ played nicely with the three children, ages 2,9,11, is housetrained, likes to play chase with the kids, is well behaved when home alone, and played exuberantly with Dax. AJ is the more outgoing of the two dogs, social and friendly when we first meet, puppy clumsy and adorable. Her coat is shiny and clean, a deep brown/black with gold/bronze highlights like a burst of sunlight – stunning! She sits before being asked for a treat which she takes gently. Her leash manners are good and she can be a little puppy jumpy as we walk but it’s all about play! She and Dax greeted one another in the backyard, both excited to see one another, standing against the gate tails wagging. In her first group play AJ greets the helper dog before going off to explore the pen. AJ is always smiling, always lovely and when she comes in my lap to give me a kiss her tail is wag wag wagging! AJ is looking for a home, a family to love, snuggle and play with. She’s an awesome little girl and is hoping you’ll stop by to meet her today.
PROFILE:
BASIC INFO
AJ and Dax were found tethered together 2.5 weeks ago. Their finder has kept them since then but relinquished them to ACC because her children are allergic to them. AJ and Dax are young dogs and appear to be possible Boxer and Pointer mixes.
SOCIALIZATION
AJ and Dax are friendly/outgoing with strangers. They lived with 3 children ages 2, 9, and 11 and are relaxed, playful, and tolerant with them. They play somewhat rough with adults and the other children, jumping up on them, but are gentle with the baby. AJ and Dax are always together and are relaxed, playful, tolerant, affectionate, and play exuberantly together. They’ve never bit anyone.
BEHAVIOR
AJ and Dax have no known behavior issues. They bark when someone comes to the door but are friendly once they come inside. They’re friendly with strangers who approach their family. AJ enjoys baths and Dax moves around a lot during them. AJ and Dax don’t mind when someone takes their food/treat/toy, moves them off furniture, holds/restrains them, wakes them up, or trims their nails.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
AJ and Dax’s family describes them as friendly, affectionate, playful, and excitable. Dax has a medium energy level and AJ has a high energy level. They follow their family around, play chase with the children, and chew bones. They lived inside and ate dry dog food. They’re housetrained, don’t have accidents, and potty on grass or dirt outside. They’re well-behaved while home alone. They slept together in a crate together overnight. They went for brisk walks and pulled on their leashes.
INTAKE
AJ and Dax approached us with loose, wiggly bodies and low wagging tails. They maintained this while we pet, scanned (-), collared, and positioned them for pictures. They stood up and leaned against us while we pet them. They both took treats gently. They became tense but were tolerant as we picked them up and put them in their kennels.
