I am a male brown and gray yorkshire terr and maltese mix. The shelter thinks I am about 3 YEARS old.

I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 06/16/2015 from NY 11413, owner surrender reason stated was PERS PROB.

06/16/15 14:43 Basic Information: Buddy is a 3 year old neutered male Yorkie Maltese born in 1/20/2012. Buddy was adopted from a pet store. Buddy is up to date on vaccinations until 9/2015. Owner surrender buddy due to personal problems. Social Life and Personality: Buddy lived with two adults and teenagers ages 18,17 and 12. Owner stated Buddy has to get use to people before he becomes really. Buddy has only been socialized to people in the household and visitors that comes by. Owner stated Buddy has bitten the teenagers in the household and strangers but doesn’t know the reason why. When Buddy sees other dogs outsde he will sniff but usually shy away owner stated. Buddy behavior is unknown towards cats. He is mostly indoors and activity is high, owner stated he likes to run around. Owner stated Buddy is playful, excitable, anxious and friendly once he gets to know someone. Behavior Issues: Buddy has bitten someone in the last month. He barks too much when someone knocks on the door. He isn’t bothered when owner touch his food bowl while eating. Buddy will growl if owner tries to take toy or treat away from his mouth. He doesn’t like to take baths so owner sends him to the groomer. He barks and growl if unfamiliar people approaches the house or family member. For a New Family to Know: Buddy is trained to use the bathroom outdoors and indoors on piddle pads. Buddy goes for walks twice a day. He likes to play with balls because he dislikes toys with noises. He is crate trained but mostly left in a room when home alone. Buddy is kept downstairs and rarely seeks attention. Buddy eats dry food called Purina or Beneful 2-3 times a day. Buddy lies to eat beef jerky for treats. Intake Behavior: Upon intake Buddy was growling and didn’t allow any handling.

06/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Buddy previously lived with two adults and teenagers ages 18, 17 and 12. Owner stated Buddy has bitten the teenagers in the household and strangers. He is mostly indoors and activity level is high. The Owner stated Buddy is playful, excitable, anxious and friendly once he gets to know someone. It was also mentioned Buddy is trained to use the bathroom outdoors and indoors on piddle pad, he is also crate trained. It was reported Buddy was growling and didn’t allow any handling upon intake. During SAFER Buddy came into the assessment room calm and a bit social towards the assessor after coaxing was needed. Sensitivity he had soft body posture, tag-interaction he quickly turn towards touch. When the first paw squeeze was attempted he tried to bite the handler hand, and during the resources portion of the assessment Buddy was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Buddy becomes tense and snappy when trying to put him back in his kennel. Due to some concerns and his previous bite history the behavior department feels that placement with a rescue that can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog lip licks. Tag : 3. Dog repeatedly turns quickly away when touched, and repeatedly tries to exit, Dog may be crouching ,tail is tucked, mouth closed, body stiff. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite. Food: 1. No interest Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
