06/11/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Binkie allowed the handler to carry her out from her kennel and seemed more relaxed when being carried, once on the floor she would continuously vocalize and occasionally pace, clearly uncomfortable and anxious. She allowed for all handling to be conducted without aggression, however, she became even more uncomfortable during tag, spinning toward the hand and then began to stand her ground with a tense body barking at the assessor. Binkie showed no interest in food, toy, or rawhide. Binkie remained a bit tense and uncomfortable throughout the assessment and only seemed to calm when she was being picked up and carried. The Behavior Department believes she would do best in an experienced home that will allow her to warm up to new people and environments at her own pacedue to her uncomfortable and anxious behavior at the shelter and throughout the assessment. She would likely do best with an adopter who has prior experience with nervous or anxious small dogs. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is a bit stiff; her tail is above spine level and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is well above spine level, body a bit stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 3. Dog repeatedly spins toward the touch, and vocalizes at the assessor with a stiff body. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food. No interest. Toy 1. No interest. Rawhide 1. No interest. Dog – dog 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect.
