07/19/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I have to say, Wisdom is sort of an ironic name for a scared little puppy. Unfortunately, this beautiful brindled, bright-eyed girl, will have to grow up quicker than she anticipated. She is nervous, fearful when I first take her out. She dodges my hand when I go to pet her. She pancaked when something slammed and made a loud noise, looking up at me frightened and quizzically. When another dog barked at her, she jumped back, retreating to the far end of the yard, tail tucked. As I sat down, calling her over softly, she slowly, cautiously, approached me, seeing that I was offering her treats. She took them gently, one at a time, and then became more brave, taking two or three at once. She even began to sit for them. After a little while, she hops up onto the bench next to me. I go to scratch her chin-she doesn’t shy away from me this time. We have become friends. She sniffs my hair curiously, gets closer, sits down and we enjoy the fresh air together. When I read her owner’s notes later, I am not surprised to see the word “gentle” repeatedly throughout her bio. Gentle with cats. Gentle with kids. She is reported to be well socialized with other dogs and even lived with another dog who was also relinquished to our care. And though she may show some anxiety when left alone, she loves wrestling and playing fetch. Wisdom hasn’t managed to quite live up to her name just yet, but in the right understanding, forever home, I am sure that she will! Come meet her at the Brooklyn Care Center today!
