07/21/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Tina looks as confused as I am…..she’s an adorable, TINY girl who literally leapt into my arms when I opened her top kennel door. So thrilled to be out for a walk, she showed off good leash manners as we walked. She’s the combination of many breeds it seems, her tiny figure propelled by short little legs walk right by my side. Calm and sweet, she wasn’t interested in my treats but took some time off leash to explore the pen, check out dogs in adjoining pens and get the lay of the land. It appears that she may not have had the cushiest bed to sleep on as she has callouses on her pressure points. She takes treats gently and when she’s had enough she simply turns her head away. In group, she’s gentle and dainty, and tolerant of other dogs. A gentle, calm, sweet little girl, she’s intent on figuring out her new temporary world until she finds her new home. Tina doesn’t care what you call her, as long as you do! Ask to meet her today.
07/21/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Tina walks calmly on leash. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Tina was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the food bowl test, then continued guarding the food after the assessor moved away. Tina was not interested in toys but she growled and bit the assess-a-hand during the rawhide test. Tina may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address his guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food 5.
