Spencer is a 10 year old neutered Beagle that was cared for by his owner for the past 5 years. He has been surrendered due to personal issues.
SOCIAL LIFE & PERSONALITY
Spencer is affectionate, calm and comforting and quiet. Spencer lived in a home with a child from age 5 to 10. He likes to be petted and rubbed down. He has lived with two chinchillas and a cat. He was docile towards them watching them from afar. His owner stated that he would herd the chinchillas back into their cage. When Spencer notices other dogs outside, he will stare at them calmly but won’t approach.
BEHAVIOR
Spencer is accustomed to being home alone during 9 to 4pm but will follow his family around once they return. He would lie down on top of his owner to relax. Spencer is accustomed to being bathed every 3 weeks. He isn’t bothered by having his food touched while he is eating or having his toys taken from him. Spencer will approach visitors when they enter the home and beg for attention. He stays by his owner’s side when his owner’s is sick. Spencer is described as quiet at home but will bark if he wants something or hears an unfamiliar sound at night. He is well behaved when left alone but his owner instructs to keep the garbage can covered otherwise he will tear at the bag. He also jumps at the counter when food is left out.
FOR A NEW FAMILY
Spencer enjoys playing with rubber balls. He knows the commands ‘lay down, “sit” and “paw.” Spencer is house trained but needs to be walked at least 3 to 4x a day otherwise he has accidents in the home. Spencer is accustomed to eating Trader Joe’s dry dog food. He likes the occasional sweet potato peels and cantaloupe slices. He is accustomed to sleeping on the couch but enjoys sleeping in bed with his owner.
DURING INTAKE
Spencer remained seated near his owner but stared at the Admissions Counselor. When a hand was extended towards him, he would sniff at it but walk away. He allowed petting on his head and back. Spencer responded well to sit and paw when given treats. He was collared, scanned for a microchip (negative) and photographed without displaying any negative behavior.
