I am a neutered male black and brown yorkshire terr and chihuahua sh mix. The shelter thinks I am about 1 YEAR 4 MONTHS old.
I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/18/2015 from NY 10458, owner surrender reason stated was OWNER SICK.

7/18/15 14:09 Basic information: Romeo is a 1 yr. old Yorkshire Chihuahua mix who was brought in as owner surrender. The owner surrendered Romeo because the owner is sick and can’t take care of him anymore. The owner got the cat as a gift from a family member. Romeo has no health problems and was last seen by a vet in March of 2015 for a checkup. Socialization: Around stranger Romeo is shy for a while and will growl and bark at the person for a while. He has lived with 3 children ages 3, 6 and 12, Remo plays with them and adults that he knows well. Romeo has never lived with other animals so the owner has no idea how he would react to other pets in the home. Romeo has never bitten or scratched anyone. Behavior: The owner states that Romeo barks a lot epically when strangers walk by the house, he is not bothered by storms or fireworks , having his food bowl moved while eating, having treats or toys taken away from him, given a bath, nails trimmed or coat brushed. Romeo barks and growls at strangers when they approach the home or family members. For a new family to know: The owner describes Romeo as a shy but friendly dog with a medium activity level. He love to play fetch with a rubber dog ball and stuffed toys. Romeo lives mostly indoors and sleeps in the living room in an dog house. He was feed nine lives wet and dry dog food and is feed 3 times a day. Romeo is house trained but sometimes might pee in the house when he gets scared, When Romeo goes to the bathroom outside he tends to go on or around trees. Romeo knows commands for sit and stay. He is walked 2 times a day on a leash and has never been outside without a leash. Behavior during intake: Romeo was very tense with stiff body and growled and barked when approached by staff. Romeo allowed to be, scanned (-), collared, photographed and placing in dog kennel only with owner present otherwise he would not allow handling.

Romeo is fearful of the shelter environment he walks with a low and fearful body language makes his body look small getting low to the ground. He holds his tail tucked and do not let the assessors handle him. During the look Romeo was giving a low growl and exposes her front teeth. We stopped the handling part for safety reason and move on with the resources. Romeo was not interested in food, toys or rawhide. She does not approach other dog, attempts to exit. Romeo was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Romeo is shy around strangers and will growl and bark at the person for a while. He has lived with 3 children ages 3, 6 and 12, Remo plays with them and adults that he knows well. Romeo has never lived with other animals so the owner has no idea how he would react to other pets in the home. Romeo is not bothered having his food bowl moved while eating, having treats or toys taken away from him”. Due to the behavior demonstrated in the shelter the behavior department believes that he would do best if placed with a New Hope partner who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification before placement into a permanent home.
