07/29/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Rudolph and Rox(who might be Rudy’s son) are with us as their owner lost his home. “Loving and Loyal” are the two main qualities that represent Rudy…..I have no doubt that Rudolph will be missed greatly by his former master and I so hope for their both sake, that soon enough, Rudolph will find his way to a new home, cared for and loved as he was before. Rudy is stressed to find himself in a kennel when he was a cherished pet for so many years and even slept in his owner’s bed… He comes with wonderful comments..housetrained, crate trained, well behaved when alone, staying off the sofa(although known to sneak when nobody watched…), calm and mellow…. Rudolph is eager to come out of his arrival kennel and not too keen to go back. He walks nicely on the leash and eliminates right away as we leave the building, no marking involved. He does not mind other dogs met in the street or in the yard. He is cool in playgroups. He comes at the call of his name and is happy to have his head and butt scratched. His eyes are so lively and he wears a big smile. He can sit on command and for treats . He absolutely loves roast beef and will jump for it. Rudolph might be 11 year old but young blood seems to run in his veins. He leaps after a ball and even retrieves it in my hand. True, his former owner said that Rudolph loves to play. Rudolph has been beautifully cared for and good genes helping, he does not look or act his age one bit…He is a pleasant and well mannered seasoned gentleman to spend time with and I would not be surprised that he still has a long lease on life, ready to be your new best friend. Come and meet Rudy at the Manhattan Care Center, a healthy, friendly and mature pet, sure to brighten your life.
07/26/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rudolph came in as an owner surrender and is described as mellow and confident with a low activity level. Owner reports Rudolph is tolerant and respectful to the other dog he lived with, behavior around cats is unknown. Owner also reports Rudolph is crate trained. Rudolph was alert but friendly during intake. His body was initially stiff, but accepted treats and allowed handling which eventually warmed him up. Rudolph walked into the SAFER assessment area with a very neutral and aloof body. He allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, tail down, body neutral. He stood still and accepted the touch during Sensitivity, body soft, tail down, mouth closed. Rudolph followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, body soft. He settled easily at the end of game and approached assessor. Rudolph gently pulled his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He consistently ate quickly due to being overweight, but allowed the Food bowl to move away and ceased eating/lifted his head when approached by assess-a-hand. Rudolph had no interest in Toy. He took Rawhide away, body aloof and neutral, same neutral body as he had the entire assessment, no change. During playgroup, Rudolph was more interested in exploring the pen. The Behavior Team feels Rudolph would do well in an Average home. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is neutral, his tail is down. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1.
