08/22/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: This is how I envision Mocha’s Match.com listing: ‘Gorgeous mocha color morsel seeking active, energetic, playful and fun loving person or family. I’m petite and sleek and have been called a dynamo! I’m super friendly and sweet with strangers per my former family, enjoy taking a bath, love action and activity, and love to snuggle. I know how to ‘sit’ and enjoy treats. My former person lost her home and I had no place to live anymore. I pull hard on my leash so could use some training, but it’s all about wanting to play, run and have fun. I’m housetrained and need to be walked regularly, and love to meet new people. I’m all about people, and prefer to be the one and only dog companion in your life. The truth is I’m really all you need! Yup, I’m that good. I do need action, so please be active and energetic so that you can keep up with me. I’m looking forward to your response to this listing.’
08/20/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Mocha was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, licked hands and face. She was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She engages in play, loose body, wags tail, mouth is open. Mochae ate faster, was stiff and very difficult to push out of the food bowl, but did not growl, snap or bite. She had no interest in toys or rawhide. Mocha was surrendered to the care center by her owner of 2 years due to personal issues; upon intake, Mocha was very high energy and seeking attention from everyone. Her previous owners reported that Mocha is super friendly and sweet around strangers. Mocha lived in the home with a 5 year old; she played a little rough with her. Her owners stated that Mocha does not like other dogs and reportedly bit another dog over a month ago; when having social time with dogs at the care center Mocha seemed unsure and would correct playful solicitation. Her owners described her as very friendly, affectionate and super hyper. It was also reported that Mocha is unbothered if her food or water bowl are touched, however, during the assessment she got stiff and gulped food when the assessor went to push her out of the food bowl. Mocha appears to be a high energy dog but remained friendly towards the assessor during handling. The Behavior Department feels Mocha would do best with an active, experienced adopter with no young children that is prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for her energy. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is neutral, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed or back. Food 3. Dog follows the dish, her tail between her legs, ears are forward. Her body is stiff.
