A volunteer writes: If we could we would draw hearts and balloons and all things that symbolize happiness around Lucky’s head…he is such a LOVE!!!!! From his enchanting little underbite to his dappled ears, his adoration of other dogs (play time is any time for Lucky!) and his great affection of other people; his gentle taking of treats, his delightful manners, his mellow, loving, delightful, friendly ambassadorship in the world…can you tell how much we love him???? WE LOVE HIM! Lucky is a sad pup in his cage but just sparkles with kindness and delight outside of the shelter…please, won’t you give him a lifetime of that? One meeting with our Lucky boy and you will know that you are in fact the lucky one. Well, OK, both of you. Let it be so!
01/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Lucky pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Lucky did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. He was not interested in toys or rawhide. Lucky approaches the helper dog with his tail at spine level, body not stiff and ears relaxed. Lucky was surrender to us. He used to lived with one adult. According to the owner he is friendly with children and strangers. The owner describes him as a very playful and very active dog. Lucky during the behavior assessment was friendly and active, he needs a significant amount of exercise and mental stimulation. The behavior department feels that he may do best with an experienced adopter. This dog is a high energy dog he needs a few toys that require him to think. Toys like Kong’s and ice Cubes load with treats to keeping him occupied for a while. Lucky needs an adopter that provides him long walks someone that loves to run or walk long distance. Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. BEHAVIOR 2/25:
Lucky was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language and wagging tail. He jumped up and grabbed the leash on each tag during the tag test, but calmed and settled quickly each time in between tags. Lucky did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Lucky did attempt to place his body in between assessor and the toy, his body froze but did not escalate. He held a firm grip on the rawhide and slightly stiffened his body.
Lucky was a surrender to us. He used to lived with one adult. According to the owner he is friendly with children and strangers. The owner describes him as a very playful and very active dog. During Lucky’s behavior assessment he was friendly and active. This dog is a high energy dog that needs exercise and mental stimulation each day to positively direct his energy.
We recommend an experienced adopter for Lucky, and due to the moderate potential for guarding behavior seen with the toy and the rawhide, we suggest a home without children. Potential adotpers should be comfortable with guarding behavior and prepared to safely manage and positively modify it should it manifest in a future home environment.

From his freckled ears to his adorable underbite, Lucky catches your eye. After that, Lucky’s charm will win you over. His affectionate nature and friendly personality make him a joy to be around. This dog is all heart! Lucky comes to life once when he is among people and other dogs and showcases his gentle playfulness out of the shelter. It will be your lucky day when you meet this dog. He is truly a jackpot!
Still another volunteer writes:
Lucky is as playful as a puppy, but he responds well to his walker and doesn’t pull hard. He had happily spun in circles when I opened his cage with my leash in my hand. For anyone who is young at heart and energetic, Lucky is your pup.
A shelter staff member writes:
“This handsome boy is still waiting for his “lucky day”, but we all know that anyone adopting him would be the
lucky one. Lucky dreams of walking out of the shelter with his new family. While he’s become a staff favorite, he would trade all the treats and attention for a spot on the couch next to you. He calmly hangs out with the adoption staff and greets adopters as they walk in. He’s hoping one these adopters will fall head over heels! After all, how could you not fall in love with his cutie? This sweet soul has an adorable under bite that makes him look like he’s grinning all the time. He’s got hidden spots under his white coat, like a Dalmatian that fell into some white paint. Above all, he’s a giant cuddle-bug and loooooves belly rubs. Give him a good little scratch and he will melt in your arms. Puppies may be cute, but with Lucky, you get a smart, loyal and energetic best friend who’s always up for an adventure! Roll your dice and get Lucky today!”
