SAFER: EXPERIENCED HOME
Lina came in as a stray, so her past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake Lina was timid but was tolerant of all handling. During SAFER Lina came into the assessment room calm, she was friendly and attention seeking towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted, during paw squeeze Lina was uncomfortable and moved her paw away from the assessor and flank was applied with no response and tail tucked. Lina was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Lina was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Lina appears to be fearful, timid, so the behavior department feels it’s best Lina can be suitable for an experience adopter.
Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft.
Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw.
Flank squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all.
Food: 2. Dog follows the dish with her tail down, body likely a bit stiff. Dog lifts head after a bit of pressure from hand to cheek.
Toy: 1. No interest.
Rawhide: 1. No interest.
Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Lina is social and wil engage in brief bouts of running play with both males and females. She will offer correction when mouted or when play becomes too exuberant.
