A volunteer writes: She could win a first prize for the prettiest and most engaging face…!!! How not to fall in love with Hazel? She is so neat in her cow print chocolate and vanilla dress. Her eyes and her smile are so hopeful. Her whole persona exhales one word…Family Dog!!! Hazel is so ready to be my friend, treats or no treats…It clicked right away between us….I so would love to wrap her and take her home with me….Hazel is all eyes on me while in her kennel. Leashing her is no problem and walking her even less. She is well mannered and calm and meets other dogs in a most civil way. She sits on command, comes at once when called and is an excellent bench girl and lap dog dispensing tons of little kisses. What is such a dream girl like Hazel doing in a shelter? She should be home, safe and loved amidst her humans…Well, Hazel’s owners had no time for a pet anymore…It is not my place to judge , of course…so i just..wonder…Hazel who has been owned by the same family for 8 years(all her life) comes with wondrous recommendations..Outstanding with children, good with the resident cat as well as with dogs, a frequent visitor of doggies playgrounds, house trained…What more do you want? Well, come and see for yourself. Ask to meet Hazel, the dog with a smile, fall in love and take her home as your very dear new best friend. Hazel is at the Manhattan Care Center.

Hazel pulled slightly on leash during her relief walk. She held gaze for three full seconds during Look item. Hazel was cautious during Sensitivity item, whale eye, tail low. She followed a bit fearful during Tag game, but approached assessor once coaxed at the end. Hazel gently pulled her paw back at both Squeeze attempts. She ceased eating and lifted her head out of Food dish when approached by assess-a-hand. Hazel had no interest in Toy. She relinquished Rawhide easily. Hazel is tolerant of other dogs in playgroup and explores the yard.
