07/18/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Little Miss Gracie, a sweetheart in a tan coat…a classic, elegant beauty… Surrendered by her family as they are moving where she isn’t welcome, we’re told that she’s housetrained (check), loves car rides, knows ‘sit’, ‘lie down’, ‘give paw’ ‘roll’, and telling her she’s a ‘good girl’ will end the command. She’s lived with other dogs and gets along with them, and doesn’t like to be left alone. She loves to play fetch, and it was obvious when I brought a ball into play in the yard that this was her game! She brings it back every time, drops it and eagerly waits for the next throw. When I gave her a toy she wasn’t interested, going back for the ball. Gracie made up her own game of in and out of my legs, rubbing against me to give herself a back scratch. Clever girl! In group she solicits play and likes other dogs to chase her. Gracie pulled hard on the leash but her former person says she does that only when excited. Gracie would love a home in which her people are able to be home with her to play ball and snuggle. A doggie sibling would be a bonus too! Ask to meet our Gracie today.
07/18/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Gracie came to us as an owner surrender on 7/15/15. It was reported by the owner that Gracie is wary of strangers, and has separation anxiety when left alone and will rip up blankets or pillows if left unattended. Gracie was very interested in interacting with the assessor when entering the behavior room. She was easy to handle and allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items while maintaining soft body language. She did not resist being handled while eating, and was easily pushed out of the food bowl. Gracie proved easy to handle when chewing on the toy item, and only displayed minimal interest in the rawhide on this portion of the assessment. The behavior department believes that Gracie can go to a home with an average amount of dog experience. When left alone Gracie should be left with some form of durable chew toys for stimulation in an effort to prevent any destructive behaviors noted by the previous owner. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is closed for a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. She lifts her head when hand is pushed against her cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then walks away. Dog-Dog: When off leash with other dogs, Gracie is anxious, vocal and will solicit and engage in running play.
