Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Helper dog: A1059793 Kushion previously lived with 2 adults, a cat and 17 years old. The owner stated Kushion is playful only with owner but is fearful towards everyone in the household; he is also respectful and tolerant towards the cat. The owner mentioned Kushion is house trained; crate trained, and has a high activity level. The owner describes Kushion as playful, excitable, affectionate, and anxious. It was reported by the owner Kushion had previously bitten someone but didn’t break skin. The owner stated Kushion will growl, lunge and snap when multiple people surrounds him. It was also mentioned by the owner she is the only one that can touch Kushion food bowl or take toys and treats away. At intake it was reported Kushion was anxious, he lunge and growl at the counselor when coming next to the owner, most handling was conducted once a muzzle was place for safety. During SAFER Kushion came into the assessment room panting and anxious, he was a bit social towards the assessor but was also very timid. Not all handling items were able to be conducted as Kushion freezes and growls at the assessor on the Look item. During this portion of the assessment on toy item Kushion freezes when attempting to take the item away. When on leash for a dog interaction with another dog on leash Kushion approaches the helper dog with his body relaxed and tail at spine. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 5. Dog freezes and growls. Toy 1: 4. Dog freezes. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
