FEMALE, BROWN COCKER SPANIEL, 7 YR OLD – STRAY – NO HOLD STRAY
Medical Behavior Evaluation GREEN
Medical Summary: Scan : negative; Sex: female; Approx 7 yr; S/O: QAR, lenticular sclerosis OU, mild otitis externa AU. Dental disease 4/4. Cutaneous 2cm mass on left dorsum. Abdomen was tense and painful on palpation. Bladder was large turgid and not expressable. Severe matting over anus. Area was cleaned and shaved. She was taken outside to urinate, stranguria. Anal glands were full but expressible, material was thick and dark.
Abdominal radiographs revealed a large bladder displacing the SI cranially, small calculi present in bladder.
UA: Protein 2+, hemolyzed blood 3+. pH6
A: Suspect urinary obstruction secondary to UTI/stones.
P: Given buprenorphine 0.53ml of 0.5mg/ml SQ. NH will be notified, Coco needs immediate follow-up veterinary attention for more thorough evaluation, may need blood work, repeat radiographs, urinary catheterization. She is not able to stay in shelter given her inability to urinate at this time.
PROGNOSIS: GUARDED
A Staff member writes: Coco was brought to us as a stray today and has been diagnosed with possible bladder stones. She is unable to urinate on her own and needs immediate local vet care. Despite any pain she may be in, she has been very sweet to the medical staff and was rewarded a green medical behavior.
