10/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Cena came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Cena would bark and howl, but did allow all handling. During SAFER Cena came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was social towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Cena tried to bite at the assessor on paw squeeze item. During this portion of the assessment on food item Cena allowed his head to be push out of the food bowl with no issue, toy item he showed no interest and on rawhide item he freezes and bare his teeth when attempting to remove the item away from him. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a rescue who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body a bit tense, mouths the leash and slowly de-escalates. Squeeze 1: 5. Dog tries to bite. Food: 1. Dog calmly allows the food to be moved, follows the dish, but does not interfere with the dish’s movement. Dog’s body is soft and loose, eyes soft, tail neutral. He lifts his head when hand is pushed against his cheek. Toy 1: No interest. Rawhide: 4. Dog freezes and bares teeth. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Cena is sexually motivated and continues to attempt to mount after correction.
