06/16/2015 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/16/15 12:37 Basic Information: Buddy is a 12 yr old neutered male that has no past or current medical issues according to the owner. Social Life & Personality: Buddy comes from a home with adults and the owner states that she has a toddler nephew who he plays somewhat rough with. He is described as being more nervous than aggresive. He is described by the owner as aggresive towards dogs of all sizes. The owner does not know how he would be around cats. Behavior Issues: Buddy loves milkbone treats however does not play much with toys. He has no guarding issues that the owner is aware of. He does not take well with baths or grooming agents so the owners have had these done professionally. When Buddy is restrained or spots strangers, he proceeds to bark and is very hard to control. He however, has never bitten anybody or another animal. He has a tendency to jet from the house or try to escape from the yard. For a New Family to Know: Buddy knows a few basic commands like sit, give paw, and stay. He enjoys slow walks but due to his behavior around strangers and other animals, the previous owners said they let him run round the yard to use the bathroom. Spencer was crated as a puppy, but is allowed to roam the house freely and is the type to follow you around seeking attention. He was fed only Purina dry food and milkbones as treats.

If your looking for a new best friend look no further Buddy is the one for you. Come to SIACC and meet him. He’s ready and waiting!!!
06/30/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
While Buddy did very well on his SAFER assessment, he has shown a concerning level of aggression toward and focus on other dogs in the care center. This same concern was voiced by the previous owner at the time of intake, that Buddy shows aggressive behavior toward other dogs of all sizes. No additional details were given by the owner about this behavior. In an off-leash social setting, Buddy was focused on another large male dog from the time of introduction, and when he was pulled away he redirected toward his human handler. Due to this level of offensive behavior and the potential for redirection, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide behavior modification and who can safely manage Buddy to keep him and all around him safe. He must be the only dog in the home. 6/23 SAFER: Buddy came to our center on 6/16/2015 as an owner surrender. It is reported Buddy lived with adults and played exuberantly with a young family member when visiting. His behavior around cats is unknown. Owner reports Buddy can be nervous and attempt to escape the yard. He walked nicely on leash for his relief walk, no pulling. Buddy allowed his head to be cupped in assessor’s hands, body soft. He accepted touch during Sensitivity item, tail down, body soft. Buddy followed at the end of the leash for Tag game, soft body, settling easily at the end. He did not pull his paw back during both Squeeze attempts. He had no interest in Food, Toys, or Rawhide. Buddy’s owner reports he does not get along with other dogs. However, during dog-to-dog interaction Buddy showed conflicting behaviors, initially approaching the helper dog at an appropriate pace, ears forward, tail at spine level. Eventually rushing forward, barking, possibly leash reactive to other dogs. He may benefit from being the only dog in the home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is down, body soft, mouth closed, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Food: Inconclusive, dog is not eating. Toy: 1. No interest. Rawhide: 1. No interest. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body not stiff, ears relaxed, neutral.
