OMG!!!!! A real treat! Araya, a puppy Shepie has arrived to charm us with her looks and her ways…As soon as we entered the pen, she does her business and comes to my lap for a hug. She accepts a treat and wants more. She can even sit for it. She is quite hungry and has still a lot of growing up to do. What a beauty! A little bit on the thin side, she wears the silkiest dress and has the most adorable face to live for. She runs, jumps for the ball(she does not guard her toy or her food for me), does a pirouette in the air for a reward. We juggle a bit with each other. She has fun and is a little shy at the same time. A real puppy. How not to fall in love? No way….Well, come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center. You will take her home as your forever best friend !

BEHAVIOR
Araya pulls a bit on leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up, mouthy (light) and grabbing a the leash. Araya was overexcited during handling, jumping up, grabbing at the leash, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. She was excitable but playful while playing tag. Araya showed some concerning behavior during the food bowl and toy test – stiffening and growling, but did not snap at or bite the assess-a-hand. Araya took the rawhide away, body language was stiff.
Araya is high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for her energy. Araya may require positive reinforcement behavior modification to address her guarding behavior. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. We also recommend a home without children.

Food 4. Dog growls.
Toy 4. Dog growls.
Rawhide 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is stiff.
When off leash with other dogs, Araya is a bit overwhelmed when greeted by a larger, playful dog- she yelps and attempts to run away. When approached by a smaller, calmer dog, she eventually approaches and briefly attempts to solicit play.
GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Araya is a bit overwhelmed when greeted by a larger, playful dog- she yelps and attempts to run away. When approached by a smaller, calmer dog, she eventually approaches and briefly attempts to solicit play.
10/21, 10/22: Araya is fearful of interaction from other dogs.
10/23 update: Araya continues to be uncomfortable around other dogs. She will greet well but when introduced she will run away and may yelp when solicited. She will stay on the opposite side of the yard as the helper dog panting.
10/29: Araya engages in gentle play with calmer dogs.
