07/07/2015 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Alexandria came into the care center as a stray, so we do not have information on her behaviors in a home. At intake Alexandria was reported to be fearful but did allow some handling when given the opportunity to interact at her own pace. It was also noted that when the counselor attempted to slowly touch her head, she became fearful and snapped at the counselor. During SAFER Alexandria did appear to be head shy and head flipped when movements were made too quickly around her head and neck area. She did allow the assessor to conduct all handling items without issue but maintained a stiff body posture. During the tag interaction Alexandria was distracted by objects in the room, but when the game ended she approached the assessor with a loose body and tail wag. During the resources portion of the assessment Alexandria could not be pushed out of the food bowl, but did not escalate to a growl or bite. She was easy to handle when engaged with the toys, but became stiff when the assessor attempted to remove the rawhides. Due to the concerns seen whole in the care center the department recommends an experienced adopter with no children. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her body posture is stiff; her tail is low and not moving. She allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is down, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needed coaxing to approach.) She is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are back. Food: 3. Dog follows the dish, her tail down, ears are forward. Her body is stiff. Dog does not lift her head from the bowl when hand is applied to his cheek. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Rawhide: 3. Dog takes rawhide away, keeps a firm hold. Her body is stiff. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Alexandria is not interested in interacting with the male greeter dog. She will correct when approached in greeting.
